How to Bang
It’s been awhile since the Wolfstar fandom has had a Big Bang, but we’re ready to bring it back! We’ll be doing things a little differently than previous Big Bangs. Here’s the scoop:
Sign-ups take place from 1 December through 5 January. If you are interested in participating as a writer or an artist, you’ll need to sign up on our Dreamwidth account. We’ll be posting further details, so be sure that you’re signed up and following us on DW for updates. Writers will be committing to 30k words, and artists will be committing to 3 pieces of artwork.
A month after sign-ups close, on 2 February, writers will have to Submit an Outline to the mods with an overview of their story. It doesn’t have to be fancy or long; it just has to show that you’ve got a coherent idea for what you’re going to be writing.
Artists will then have a week to review the outlines and Submit Their Top 3 Choices for collaboration by 9 February. The mods will then pair up writers and artists, and announce the pairings the following week.
There will be several Check-Ins over the next few months to make sure that everyone is on track for success in publishing an awesome creation. We’ll keep all participants in the loop with info and events on Dreamwidth and Tumblr, as well as in a Discord chat. Our goal is to have writers and artists connecting and supporting each other for the entirety of the event, from sign-ups all the way through to posting.
On 1 June we’ll be sending a call for Support Team participation from fans and readers. This is your chance to get involved with beta reading, moodboard and edit creation, fest promotion, etc.
Overall, you’ll have six months to Big Bang it out before we all get to enjoy an end-of-summer Wolfstar content binge!
What sort of content am I committing to if I sign up?
Writers will be required to write one original, cohesive story with a minimum of 30k words (no maximum). Artists will be required to create a minimum of three pieces of artwork to go along with their assigned story.
Can I use a work that I’ve published previously, or that’s been sitting in my drafts for 3 years?
For this fest, we need all original content, none of which has been published previously. That being said, if you’ve got an outline or a draft that’s been hanging around your WIP folder for too long, now’s the perfect time to dust it off and finish it!
What sort of artwork is acceptable?
All art must be visual, original art. By original art, we mean that the final product must be an original product of the artist. Using photos for reference is fine, and you can use whatever traditional or digital medium you require, so long as the art starts and finishes as your own product. For example, the art can look just like a photo of Sirius - if the artist wants, but it cannot BE a photo of Sirius manipulated in photoshop. So: fanmixes - no, fanvids - no, podfic - no. Hit up the mods if you need clarity on an idea.
What if a friend and I want to work together?
We’re all about collaboration! If you’re part of a writer duo, or a writer/artist partnership, feel free to bro it up and sign up together as a team from the very beginning.
What if I hate the artist/writer that I’m assigned to work with?
You won’t, because we’re all awesome in the Wolfstar fandom. For real though, we’ll have spent a month chatting and mingling in Discord (this isn't up and running yet) and on Dreamwidth before we assign writer/artist pairings, and we will take personal preference into account.
No, Siriusly, what if I hate the artist/writer's story that I’m assigned to work with?
Artists: when signing up, comments will be screened and if there is a piece you simply CANNOT write for, please let us know. That being said, this is life-or-death/goes-against-every-moral-f
Can I write whatever I want?
Yes! Anything goes! Within reason! Every story must be centered around Remus and Sirius’ relationship, although other side pairings are fine. Any and all ratings are cool with us, but if you’re a writer, we will need to know how hot and heavy you plan on getting when you submit your outline, to ensure the comfort of our artists. All works must be edited.
Are there any age restrictions for participation?
Sorry, but yes. You’ve got to be 18, or over the legal age of the country you are in, to participate.
Where are the submissions going to be hosted?
All submissions will be posted on AO3 via Dreamwidth, under our Wolfstar Big Bang collection.
What if I can’t finish on time, will I get an extension?
We’ll have plenty of check-ins to make sure that you will indeed finish on time! If you’ve got any concerns, the mods will work with you to find a solution on a case-by-case basis.
Can I post my work on my personal blog?
Noooo! Part of the fun is the grand reveal! We ask that you keep your work on the DL until posting for the Big Bang is complete. It sounds like this is an RS Games anonymous style, it simply means, we'll decide on how long we'd appreciate you wait. :)
I can’t sign up, but I still want to participate, what can I do?
No worries, there are lots of ways for you to help support the Big Bang! Follow us on Dreamwidth and Tumblr; reblog, comment, and share our posts to spread the word. We’ll also be asking for help with beta reading, moodboard and edit creation, and other cool ways for you to get involved!
Why is it called a Big Bang?
The concept of a Big Bang is present across multiple fandoms, though the very first one in 2005 was a Harry Potter fandom fest. We’re simply carrying on the tradition! Of course, Remus and Sirius have their own theories about why they like the name Big Bang… ;)
Clarification, you got our info. ;D
Bang a boom-a boomerang.
