The Big Bang is a chance for writers and artists to collaborate and create fanfiction stories paired with artwork, all of which will focus on the much loved pairing of Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. Here’s a link to the 2018 master list for an example of what we’re talking about!

This year, we’ll be doing a Reverse Bang where artists create works, then authors write stories inspired by the artwork. Claims will be anonymous, but collaboration post-claims is encouraged.

Each artist must submit one piece of art, although they may submit up to three pieces of art, to be claimed by three individual authors. Each author may claim one piece of art, for which they are required to write a 10k word minimum story. Creations may be canon, canon divergent, or AU. They must be Remus/Sirius centric, featuring Remus and Sirius in a romantic, aromantic, or queerplatonic partnership pairing.

Rules and FAQ

What sort of content am I committing to if I sign up?

Artists will be required to create one piece of artwork. They will be allowed to submit up to three pieces total, to be claimed for three separate collaborations. Writers will be required to claim one piece of artwork and write one original, cohesive story with a minimum of 10k words (no maximum) inspired by their chosen artwork.

Depending on interest level, we may choose to do a second round of claims to allow up to two authors per artwork. Opting in would be optional for the artist.

What sort of artwork is acceptable?

All art must be visual, original art. By original art, we mean that the final product must be an original product of the artist. Using photos for reference is fine, and you can use whatever traditional or digital medium you require, so long as the art starts and finishes as your own product. Photo manips are not allowed. Hit up the mods if you need clarity on an idea.

Art must be completed when submitted for claims. The exception to this would be if you leave a section open for editing once the fic is done (e.g. a space on a shirt for a logo, a blank label on an owl note, etc.) Artists may enlist a beta, but it is not required.

Can I use a work that I’ve published previously, or that’s been sitting in my drafts for 3 years?

For this fest, we need all original content, none of which has been published previously. Artists can certainly brush off a WIP and spruce it up for submission, but authors should plan on starting new projects so they can be fully inspired by their chosen art.

What if a friend and I want to work together?

We’re all about collaboration, but for this event, claims will be anonymous and first come, first serve. No pairing up beforehand will be allowed.

Can I create whatever I want?

Yes! Anything goes! Within reason! Every creation must be centered around Remus and Sirius’ relationship. Since this is a Wolfstar-centric event, we will not be accepting polyamorous relationships with Sirius and Remus paired with others, though we do encourage polyamorous side pairings (and other side pairings as well). If you choose to pair Sirius or Remus with other people, these relationships must be incidental, and you must have a Wolfstar endgame in that case.

Any and all ratings are cool with us, as well any setting, be it canon, canon divergent, or AU. Artists will be able to outline their preferences on rating, do-not-wants, and collaboration interest level if desired so that authors may take that into consideration. All fics must be edited, beta read, and legible.

Are there any age restrictions for participation?

Sorry, but yes. You’ve got to be 18 or over to participate.

How will claiming work?

The mods will compile the artists’ submissions anonymously into a Google doc, which will be shared with the authors prior to claims. Once claims open, authors will submit their choices via Google forms. Pairings will be assigned first-come, first serve. Claims will be live, and the artist Google doc will be updated as submissions are claimed.

Where are the submissions going to be hosted?

All submissions will be posted on AO3 under our Wolfstar Big Bang collection, on Pillowfort in the Wolfstar community, and on Tumblr.

What if I can’t finish on time, will I get an extension?

We’ll have plenty of check-ins to make sure that you will indeed finish on time! If you’ve got any concerns, the mods will work with you to find a solution on a case-by-case basis. We will also enlist the help of author pinch hitters if necessary.

Can I post my work on my personal blog?

Noooo! Part of the fun is the grand reveal! We ask that you keep your work on the DL until posting for the Big Bang is complete.

I can’t sign up, but I still want to participate, what can I do?

No worries, there are lots of ways for you to help support the Big Bang! Follow us on Dreamwidth and Tumblr; reblog, comment, and share our posts to spread the word. We’ll also be asking for help with beta reading, pinch hitting, and other cool ways for you to get involved!

Why is it called a Big Bang?

The concept of a Big Bang is present across multiple fandoms, though the very first one in 2005 was a Harry Potter fandom fest. We’re simply carrying on the tradition! Of course, Remus and Sirius have their own theories about why they like the name Big Bang… ;)
